THE CHALLENGE
A telecommunications group operating across multiple business functions had reached a point where internal misalignment was measurably slowing the organisation down. Different teams had developed their own distinct tools, terminology and informal working methods, which hardened into genuine cross-team friction. Meetings intended to make decisions frequently became meetings about clarifying terminology instead. Leadership recognised the deeper issue was structural: there was no shared framework, language or set of tools that teams across the group held in common.
THE APPROACH
The response was designed as a single bespoke programme delivered across the affected teams together, rather than separate department-level interventions that would have reinforced the silos causing the problem. Design work began with structured conversations across each affected function to understand their specific working language and pain points. From this understanding, a bespoke course was built around shared tools and frameworks the group’s teams could adopt collectively, delivered directly to teams across the group together — using the shared session itself as an early opportunity to practise the new shared language live.
THE OUTCOME
Cross-team alignment improved noticeably, with teams reporting that collaborative decisions could now be reached more directly using shared terminology. The shared vocabulary became genuinely embedded in how the group operated day to day rather than fading once training ended. Decision-making speed between previously siloed teams improved as a direct result, and leadership reported a less quantifiable but genuinely valued shift in tone, with cross-team conversations becoming noticeably less adversarial.
We finally had a shared way of talking about problems across teams that used to work in silos. That alone changed how fast we move.
