Centralised hub design with tiered access architecture

THE CHALLENGE

A large insurance company had built up a genuinely rich internal ecosystem of events, CSR initiatives, learning opportunities and cross-functional projects — but almost none of it lived anywhere employees could reliably find it. Information was scattered across shared drives, email threads and disconnected intranet pages. The organisation also needed to extend visibility to external partners in some cases, while ensuring sensitive project information was only visible to those who should legitimately see it — a simple shared page would not be enough on its own.

THE APPROACH

The engagement began with discovery across the organisation to map exactly what needed to be centralised and who needed to see what. This meant working directly with the teams responsible for events, CSR, learning and development, and active project management, alongside mapping the organisation’s actual audience structure in detail. From this foundation, the work moved into designing a tiered access architecture as the structural backbone of the new platform, with content structures designed around this access model for each of the four core content areas, and clear, consistent ownership assigned to the team closest to each one.

THE OUTCOME

Employees could now find and engage with company events, CSR initiatives, upskilling opportunities and active cross-organisational projects in one place, appropriate to their access level. Engagement with CSR and upskilling initiatives increased noticeably once visibility improved. The tiered access model proved robust in practice, allowing external partners appropriate visibility without exposing sensitive internal project information. The platform also gave leadership a clearer, organisation-wide view of activity that had previously been fragmented across silos.
